Scarlet forces Game Five with extra inning 4-3 win over Gray

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Scarlet team took an early lead but had to push across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win Game Four of the Fall World Series, 4-3, Thursday night.

Brandon Mand (Mason, Ohio) grounded into a bases-loaded fielder's choice to score the winning run. Mand recorded Scarlet's only two RBIs on the night, with the other two runs coming on wild pitches.

Stephen Byrd (Vero Beach, Fla.) picked up the win, giving up one earned run on two hits in 3.1 innings of relief to earn Game MVP honors.

Scarlet had taken an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the second inning, but Gray put together a comeback to send the game to extra innings. C.J. Tyrkala (Palm Harbor, Fla.) led the top of the fifth off with a single, followed by a double from Derek Bley (Upper Arlington, Ohio). Casey Faulkenberry (Camden, S.C.) grounded out to second base, scoring Tyrkala. Bley then scored when Tyler Manasa (Miami, Fla.) reached on an error.)

The Gray squad tied the game in the sixth when Michael Morin (Miami, Fla.) scored on an RBI single by Tyrkala. Tyrkala was 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in the game.

Thomas Berryhill (Aynor, S.C.) came to the mound in relief in the bottom of the eighth, but Mand's bases loaded fielder's choice forced the decisive fifth game.

Game Five is scheduled for approximately 3:45 Friday afternoon at the Smith Road Baseball Complex.
