NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College baseball staff wrapped up the second annual Nike Baseball Camp on the campuses of Newberry College and Newberry High School.
Head coach Bob Rikeman and assistant coaches Charlie Goens and Chris Youngberg directed the camp, with 36 campers total. Many of the youngsters stayed in the dorms at Newberry College, adding to the camp experience.
"It was really nice to see the kids not only learn a lot, but also enjoy Newberry College," coach Rikeman said. "The kids had a great time, and it's good to have Newberry College involved. With the construction of the new stadium and the excitement and enthusiasm the kids had this week, the community support for Indians baseball has increased."
The enthusiasm for Newberry the campers displayed all week was evident at the last session on Thursday. Most of the campers had come into the week sporting the caps of various professional, college and youth teams, but by the final day, over two-thirds of the young men were wearing the Newberry "block N" on their caps.
The annual Nike Baseball camps in Newberry are under the direction of Newberry College head baseball coach Bob Rikeman. He can be reached at (803)321-5162 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information regarding camps and the upcoming season.
