Indians drop 22-2 decision to Mt. Olive in first game of doubleheader
Saturday, February 4, 2006

MT. OLIVE, N.C. A 16-run second inning was the power surge behind a Mt. Olive slugfest as the Trojans rolled to a 22-2 victory over Newberry Saturday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader. Three Newberry pitchers gave up the 22 runs in two full innings of play, followed by Travis Howard entering the game and pitching four shutout innings for the Scarlet and Gray.

15 of the 22 runs were earned as Newberry (1-1) committed four errors in the game while the Trojans put up 22 hits on the day. Mt. Olive (1-0) gave head coach Carl Lancaster a decisive win in Lancasters 900th game as the Trojans skipper.

One of the bright spots of the game came early on as Brandon Manasa sent a solo shot over the left center wall to give Newberry a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Mt. Olive held a 2-1 lead at the end of an inning and a half before starting the 16-run pillaging of the Indians pitching staff.

The Indians face off against the Trojans in game two momentarily and face Mt. Olive in another doubleheader Sunday with action getting underway at 1 p.m.
