NEWBERRY, S.C. - After a disappointing series sweep Friday and Saturday at Lenoir-Rhyne, the Indians have completed all of their regular season contests except two, which will fall after the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament this weekend in Greeneville, Tenn.
Newberry will enter the tournament as the eighth seed and will face Catawba College in a first-round matchup at Pioneer Park. Catawba and Tusculum, the host school, finish with identical 17-4 conference records, but the Indians earned the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the head-to-head series with the Pioneers.
You will be able to hear every Newberry tournament game on WKDK AM 1240 and here at www.newberryindians.com through Red Zone Media.
This past weekend, Newberry dropped to 2-19 in the SAC and 9-40-1 overall with 21-8, 15-0, and 9-3 losses to the Bears. Offensively, Brandon Manasa (Miami, Fla.) led the way, batting .429 on six-for-14 hitting. Anthony Dillenger (Gaffney, S.C.) was three-for-nine with four RBI and a home run.
Following the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, Newberry will play a two-game series at the University of Tampa on April 28 and 29. Those games will be audio-broadcast on the Internet only through www.redzonemedia.com.
