CLINTON, S.C. - Newberry College swept a South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader from Presbyterian College on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 19-16 and taking the nightcap 13-3.

In the first game, Newberry (15-23, 5-9 SAC) scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning, after PC (12-25, 5-9) scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth, to take the 19-16 win.

After the Blue Hose knotted the score up at six with two runs in the bottom of the third, the Indians outscored PC 8-2 over the next four innings to take a commanding lead. PC then took the lead in the bottom of the eighth with eight runs on four hits.

Down 16-15, Newberry won it in the top of the ninth, when pinch runner Daniel Till (Lexington, S.C.) scored on a sacrifice fly, and Ryan Easterby (Charleston, S.C.) hit a monster three-run homerun to set the final margin.

Easterby led Newberry at the plate with three hits, two of them homeruns, and seven RBIs. Anthony Dillenger (Gaffney, S.C.), Brandon Brown (Starr, S.C.), Matthew Webb (Cheraw, S.C.) also finished with three hits for the Indians. Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, S.C.) led PC at the plate with four hits and five RBIs, while Russell Robinson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) both finished with three hits.

Josh Page (Columbia, S.C.) picked up the win, while Russell Haltiwanger (Simpsonville, S.C.) picked up the save.

In the second game, Newberry broke open a close game with two runs in the sixth on a homerun by Jamall Kinard (Newberry, S.C.) and seven runs in the seventh for a 13-3 victory.

The Indians scored a run in the first and three runs in the second before PC's Lance Howard (Simpsonville, S.C.) hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the third to pull the Blue Hose within one.

Dillenger, Malcolm McLeod (Chapin, S.C.), and Dean Walker (Afton, Tenn.) all had three hits to lead Newberry at the plate. Bodie had three hits to lead the Blue Hose.

Will Folk (Charleston, S.C.) picked up the win for Newberry, while Zach Matthews (Batesburg, S.C.) took the loss.

The two teams will finish their three-game series tomorrow at the PC Baseball Complex with a single game beginning at 1:00 pm.
