Newberry's McCord named SAC ”Player of the Week”

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Newberry College left fielder T.J. McCord was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week the league announced Monday afternoon.

McCord, a freshman from Manning, S.C., had a monster week for the Indians, compiling a .467 batting average and a 1.133 slugging percentage in five games. 

In a 6-5 loss to Limestone College on Wednesday, McCord went 2-for-4 with a double and triple.  He was also intentionally walked once, and drove in a run.  In Newberry’s home opening series against Shepherd College, McCord went 5-for-14 with two home runs and seven RBI in four games.

On the season, McCord is hitting .375 with nine runs batted in.  His .833 slugging percentage is tops on the Indian team.

The SAC player of the week is selected by the conference’s eight sports information directors.
