Augusta, GA--Greg Thomas threw a complete game five-hitter as the #16 Augusta State Jaguars defeated Newberry 5-1 in NCAA Baseball Action from Jaguar Field Thursday afternoon. With the win ASU remains perfect at home with an 18-0 record, and moves its overall record to 25-8, while the lost drops the Indians to 15-21.
The 6 foot 3 inch right-hander allowed only one run while striking out five Indians on the day. Thomas also retired 14 batters in a row from the fourth to the ninth inning for his team-high seventh victory of the season.
His run support would come in the third inning as three Jaguars would plate runs, breaking open a 1-1 tie.
Bennett Mayfield and Garrick McGrath each had two hits for the Jaguars while Newberry's Dean Walker had a pair of hits in the losing cause.
Newberry returns to conference action Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Indians will play a doubleheader with Wingate University and a single game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
