Volunteer Assistant Coach
Patrick Burnette was added to the Newberry men's soccer staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach in July 2017.
“I'm excited about the opportunity Coach Cooper is giving me,” said Burnette, “and am ready to help the program continue building successful young men on and off the pitch.”
“I’m excited to welcome Patrick to our program and the Newberry family,” Cooper added. “He has strong ties to the area and comes with great past experience at the club and collegiate level. He will be able to help our goal keepers get more functional training and help with their overall development, which will be a much needed piece we had been missing in the past. He has good connections in the area and will be able to help us continue to raise our recruiting profile in the state and region. I am looking forward to working with him.”
Burnette served as the Director of Goalkeeping for Global Premier Soccer Lexington Soccer Academy in the Columbia area and the head coach of both the U8 and U11 teams at the club.
He also has an extensive background coaching in the South Carolina Lowcountry. He spent two seasons as a Technical Trainer with the Summerville Soccer Club, three as a Goalkeeping Coach for the Charleston Southern women’s program, and nine as an assistant boys coach at Stratford High School.
A Charleston native, Burnette played the 1994-96 seasons with Charleston Southern University before finishing his career at Lander in 2000. He played professionally for the Atlanta Silverbacks for one season.
