Lindsey Swygert was hired as the head cheerleading coach at Newberry College in May 2012, Swygert was elevated to Director of the Spirit Program in February 2013.
In 2015, Swygert coached the Wolves to winning Cheersport Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. before the team finished in fourth place at Canam College Championships.
In 2014, Swygert led the Wolves to the Jamfest Super National Championships title in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a runner-up finish at the Canam Nationals in Myrtle Beach.
In 2013, Swygert coached the Wolves cheer squad to a third-place finish at the CHEERSPORT National Cheerleading and Dance Championship in Atlanta. The Wolves finished third just behind Division 1 program Georgia Tech.
Swygert has grown the Newberry cheerleading program from 16 returning women to a roster of 50. The program has grown beyond roster size under Swygert’s guidance as she has developed an all-girl competitive team and a co-ed competitive team.
Prior to being named the head cheerleading coach at Newberry, Swygert was the head cheerleading coach at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga. Swygert also has experience as a coach, choreographer and camp instructor at CHEERSPORT Inc., Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga. Swygert was a four-year member of the all-girl squad at the University of South Carolina from 2005-09.
In her role as Director of the Spirit Program, Swygert is responsible in overseeing the development of Newberry’s cheerleading program and mascots. Swygert is also responsible for coordination with the Newberry Scarlet Spirit Marching Band in relation to game day experience and coordinates with other campus organizations for events on and off campus.
She is the wife of Newberry College Football's Offensive Coordinator Bennett Swygert.
