R.C. LaHaye

R.C. LaHaye joined the Newberry College wrestling program for the 2014-15 season as associate coach. He also served as interim head coach in the spring 2016 semester. In his three seasons with the Wolves, he has helped guide them to the 2015 NCAA Super Region II championship as well as the 2016 and 2017 ECAC Division II Wrestling League titles while tallying a 41-14 dual meet record over those two seasons.

LaHaye has helped the Wolves to an 11-1 mark in ECAC competition in the Wolves' two seasons in the league and has coached 12 all-ECAC selections and three Academic All-Americans.

LaHaye founded the wrestling program at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., and coached the Antelopes for seven seasons. LaHay built the 'Lopes from a startup program to one of the best NCAA Division II teams in the country, coaching 13 'Lopes to NCAA All-American status and a 76-28 dual meet record in his final five seasons. He recruited and coached University World Champion and 2013 Division II Wrestler of the Year Tyrell Fortune.

Prior to the 'Lopes club year in 2013-14, LaHaye coached GCU to three consecutive top 10 finishes at the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

GCU competed as a club team as the university transitioned to Division I status, winning the NCWA national championship by a landslide with four champions, three runners-up and three third place finishes.

LaHaye has coached four NCAA national champions, 20 NCAA Division II All-Americans and 42 NCAA Division II National Qualifiers.

LaHaye had a decorated wrestling career at Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. At Western State, he was a 2004 NCAA Division II All-American. He was also a three-time NCAA Academic All-American, three-time NCAA National Qualifier, three-time All-Rocky Mountain Athletic selection, as well as a Colorado Collegiate Champion. He was a member of the 2004 Western State squad that finished fourth in the nation.

Born and raised in Payson, Ariz., LaHaye wrestled for Payson HS under Hall of Fame coaches Dennis Pirch and Dave Lamotte. He was a three-time state champion and set a state record for career wins. LaHaye was a two-time High School All-American and team captain for three state championship teams.

LaHaye received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Adminstration from Western State College in 2005 and a Masters of Science in Leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2010.  He and his wife Katie have a daughter Lucie (age 3) and are expecting another child this fall.
