NEWBERRY, S.C. - The conclusion of our Sears of Newberry halftime promotion, “The Chef Shuffle”, took place Saturday, November 1, at football’s last home game of the season. Each of the four contestants who participated earned a spot in our final competition by winning the shuffle at one of our home games this season.
For each event we drew the names of two fans who each raced to be the first to successfully dress in a chef’s coat, an apron, a chef’s hat and then pick up a football with the use of only tongs and run it to our Sears' donated grill on the fifty yard line. Mashanda Thomas, Trey Mitchum, Joseph Wahl, Audrey Garrison, Carl Ehlich and Scott Lehman each finished the fastest and were invited to come back on November 1 for the finale.
Saturday’s concluding contest consisted of a hotdog eating challenge. Carl Ehlich and Scott Lehman were unable to make it to the game; therefore the remaining four battled it out to see who could finish three hotdogs the fastest. A valiant effort by our youngest competitor, Audrey Garrison, was barely edged out by our eventual winner, Trey Mitchum, out of Cordesville, S.C. His ability to scarf down hotdogs won him a Kenmore gas grill courtesy of Sears of Newberry.
Newberry College would like to thank Sears and Owner Melvin Evans for their support and donation of the Kenmore gas grill. The promotion helped to create a fun and energetic atmosphere at games and quickly became something that Newberry fans looked forward to at each home game this season. Please help Newberry College return the favor by visiting your local Sears.
