Casey Stevens named to Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District III First TeamSophomore advances to Academic All-America ballot May 3, 2012
McLEAN, Va. – Newberry College sophomore softball player Casey Stevens (Coral Springs, Fla.) has been named a Capitol One Academic All-District III First Team member, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today. With her first team all-district honor, Stevens is now eligible for Academic All-America honors. Stevens sports a perfect 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in mathematics. At the Newberry’s annual awards convocation, Stevens received an award for her Outstanding Service and Leadership to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where she serves as the vice president. Off the field, Stevens is also the vice president of the Society of Undergraduate Mathematicians, while also a member of the Blue Key Honors Society. A 2011 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete, Stevens was also a member of the 2010-11 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. NCAA Division II District III includes Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt Conference and the South Atlantic Conference. Student-athletes selected for Academic All-District honors must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. They must possess at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale).
