Casey Stevens named to Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team

McLEAN, Va. – Newberry College sophomore softball player Casey Stevens (Coral Springs, Fla.) has been named a Capitol One Academic All-District III First Team member, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today.

With her first team all-district honor, Stevens is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Stevens sports a perfect 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in mathematics. At the Newberry’s annual awards convocation, Stevens received an award for her Outstanding Service and Leadership to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where she serves as the vice president. Off the field, Stevens is also the vice president of the Society of Undergraduate Mathematicians, while also a member of the Blue Key Honors Society.

A 2011 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete, Stevens was also a member of the 2010-11 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
On the softball field, Stevens hit .314 with 19 runs scored and 17 RBIs. In addition to her two home runs, Stevens led the Wolves in doubles with 10. In the pitching circle, Stevens also notched a 2-2 record and also picked up a save.

NCAA Division II District III includes Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt Conference and the South Atlantic Conference. Student-athletes selected for Academic All-District honors must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. They must possess at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). They must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
