Thomas named Division II All-Independent second team defenderMay 2, 2012 NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry College freshman Victoria Thomas has been named to the Division II All-Independent Second Team as a defender, it was announced on Wednesday. Thomas (Manhattan, Kan.) led the Wolves with 36 ground balls and led all of Newberry’s field players with 12 caused turnovers. Thomas’ 3.0 ground balls per game placed the Wolves’ freshman No. 36 in ground balls per game nationally. On the offensive end Thomas scored three goals and added an assist to her stat line. Thomas becomes the first Newberry women’s lacrosse player to earn individual honors of any kind. Thomas and the Wolves wrapped up their inaugural season with a 2-10 record. The Division II Independent Women’s Lacrosse awards were voted on by coaches who elected to participate in the selection process. Schools participating were Catawba College (N.C.), Florida Southern College, Grand Valley State University (Mich.), Lenoir-Rhyne University (N.C.), Newberry College (S.C.), Shepherd University (W. Va.), Tiffin University (Ohio) and Urbana University (Ohio).
