Box Score

NEWBERRY, S.C. – On a day that saw senior Kristin Stensholt and Rene Durr honored, the Newberry women’s lacrosse team fell 18-4 to the visiting Erskine Flying Fleet.

Erskine (5-10) opened the game scoring seven straight goals, before Wolves’ (2-10) freshman Nikki Colwell (Greer, S.C.) controlled a draw and took the ball to goal, where she drew a free position opportunity. After a Colwell miss and a miss by freshman Tessa Davis (Triangle, Va.), Davis controlled a ground ball off her own shot.

A quick pass from Davis found the stick of freshman Meg Kenny (Mauldin, S.C.), who flung a shot past the Erskine keeper for her 10th goal of the season.

Almost four minutes after Kenny’s opening tally, the Wolves again found the net as Colwell scored her 28th goal of the year.

Newberry’s third straight goal came with 15 minutes remaining in the opening half, when freshman Victoria Thomas (Manhattan, Kan.) assisted on Colwell’s 29th goal of the season.

Erskine answered with six-straight goals to end the first half.

The second half opened with Erskine scoring less than a minute into the half, before Kenny tallied her second goal of the game and 11th of the season five minutes into the second period.

Erskine scored four final goals before time expired on the game.

Newberry honored Stensholt and Durr, the team’s two seniors, at halftime of the game against Erskine.

Stensholt controlled two draws and recorded a single ground ball, while Durr forced a Flying Fleet turnover.

The Wolves are scheduled to wrap up their inaugural season with a 4 p.m. showdown in Gaffney, S.C., against No. 4 Limestone on Wednesday.
