Wolves fall to Young Harris in final two games at NC Softball FieldApril 15, 2012
NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry softball team closed out its season with a pair of losses to Young Harris as the Mountain Lions bested the Wolves 3-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two in what were the final two games at the current Newberry Softball Field before moving to a new field on Smith Road. The Wolves wrap up the season with an 18-27 record. Game One: Young Harris 3, Newberry 0 After two scoreless innings, Young Harris plated a pair of runs in the top of the third on a two run homer by Emily Wilson. The third and final run of the game came in the top of the fourth, when the Mountain Lions were able to push a run across the plate with two outs. (Game 1) Game Two: Young Harris 3, Newberry 1 Young Harris opened game two with two runs in the top of the first, before the Wolves answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Holland opened the inning by reaching on an error. After a successful sacrifice bunt moved Holland to second, the Wolves’ third baseman reached third safely on a ground out, before scoring on an infield single by sophomore Casey Stevens (Coral Springs, Fla.).
