Wolves earn fifth seed in Food Lion SAC Tournament; Start postseason play Thursday

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Newberry College men's tennis team has qualified for the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament as the fifth seed and opens postseason play Thursday against fourth-seeded Tusculum, the conference office announced today.

Catawba, Mars Hill and Newberry each finished tied for fifth in the final SAC standings at 4-5, necessitating the use of a three-team tiebreaker to determine access and seeding in the Championship.  Newberry becomes the No. 5 seed by virtue of its 10-8 dual match record against the other two teams, while Catawba wins the tiebreaker over Mars Hill for the sixth and final seed based on its head-to-head victory on March 1.

The Wolves find themselves in a favorable matchup in the first round, which will be played at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Rock Hill Tennis Center. On March 29, the Wolves defeated Tusculum 7-2 and won five of six singles matches. The winner of the matchup will advance to face regular season champion Wingate in the semifinals.

Complete information on the event, including full brackets, can be found at SAC Championship Central.
