Golay, Eddy named to All-Freshman team at SAC ChampionshipOctober 22, 2011
The Newberry men's cross country team finished seventh while the women finished eighth out of 10 at the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship in Harrogate, Tenn. on Saturday. Men Justin Golay (Springfield, Mo.) was the men's top finisher. The freshman finished 20th out of 84 and was named to the All-freshman team. He finished the 8k race in 27:43.8. Fellow freshman Nathan Collier (Weatherford, Texas) finished 25th with a time of 28:01.9. Alex Holshoe (Hopkins, Mich.) finished in 30:23.3 good enough for 54th while Austin Sorensen (Murrieta, Calif.) finished 55th. Mars Hill won its 15th straight SAC championship. Full results are below. Women's The women were led by freshman Rebecca Eddy (Eugene, Ore.) who finished the 5k course 27th of 80with a time of 21:41. Eddy was named to the All-Freshman team. Kelley Strong (Union, S.C.) finished 41st with a time of 22:06.7. Amanda Hunter and Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) finished 58th and 59th, respectively. Anderson took home the women's crown.
