Box Score

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Despite outshooting Brevard 19-14 the Newberry men’s soccer team was defeated 1-0 by the visiting Tornados.

Newberry (5-11-0, 1-7-0 South Atlantic Conference) managed 11 shots in the first half, but it was one of Brevard’s (3-11-1, 1-6-0) five shots in the half that found the back of the net. In the 37th minute Tommi Rasinmaki ripped a shot at Newberry keeper Joel Johnson (Sangre Grande, Trinidad & Tobago) that was turned away, but Felipe Mendonca gathered up the rebound and slotted it into the net from about six yards out for what would be the game winner.

The Wolves saw six shots from sophomore Stephen Harvey (Kingston, Jamaica) and five saves in goal from Johnson.

Newberry wraps up the 2011 regular season on Saturday October 29, when the Wolves host Carson-Newman at 4 p.m.
