Men's soccer drops 1-0 decision at St. AndrewsOctober 17, 2011 LAURINBURG, N.C. – Newberry goalkeeper Joel Johnson recorded six saves, but was handed a 1-0 loss as the Wolves dropped a road match at St. Andrews on Monday afternoon. Johnson (Sangre Grande, Trinidad & Tobago) kept two shots on goal out of the net in the first half, but in the 69th minute Saint Andrews (3-11) forward Scott Ashbridge netted his first goal of the season off a cross from Dennis Schardt. The Wolves (5-9) managed 15 shots in the match, and were led by sophomore Jay Barajas (Atlanta, Ga.) who fired off four shots in the match. Newberry returns to the pitch on Wednesday when it travels to Anderson for a 4 p.m. meeting with the No. 9 Trojans. The Wolves return home on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they play host to Brevard. |
