Eight Wolves set personal records at Charlotte Cross Country InvitationalSeptember 30, 2011
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman Nathan Collier (Weatherford, Texas) led the way for the Newberry men's cross country team by finishing 30th at the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational at McAlpine Park. The freshman was one of eight Newberry runners to break a personal record. Collier was 26 seconds better than his previous best time finishing 94th out of 260 runners in the 8 kilometer race with a time of 26:38.84. Fourteen of the 34 teams at the race compete at the Division I level. Justin Golay (Springfield, Mo.) finished 188th finishing in 28:29.19 while Austin Sorensen (Murrieta, Calif.) finished 209th in 29:08.17. On the women's side, Kelley Strong (Union, S.C.) finished the 5k race 195th out of 272 in a time of 20:44.68 while freshman Rebecca Eddy (Eugene, Ore.) finished 203rd in 20:55.43. Nicole Whittle (Port Richey, Fla.) finished 220th with a time of 21:30.43. All four female runners and the top four male runners all set personal records. The women didn't field enough runners to be considered in the team competition.
