Collier finishes fifth to pace Newberry cross country teamsSeptember 24, 2011
WINGATE, N.C. - The Newberry men's cross country team finished tied for fifth out of seven teams while the women finished sixth out of seven at the Bulldog Stampede hosted by South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate on Saturday morning. The Newberry men were led by freshman Nathan Collier (Weatherford, Texas) who finished in third place with an 8k time of 26:59. Collier finished in the top-10 for the fourth consecutive race. He was the only top-10 finisher but teammate Justin Golay (Springfield, Mo.) finished 13th with a time of 28:35 and Austin Sorensen (Murrieta, Calif.) finished 17th. On a 5k course, the Newberry women were led by Rebecca Eddy (Eugene, Ore.) who finished 13th with a time of 21:45. Only three spots behind Eddy was freshman Kelley Strong (Union, S.C.) who finished in 16th place and senior Nicole Whittle (Port Richey, Fla.) finished 18th.
