BLOG: 2008-09 Season in Review

by Lauren Ressler, Head Women's Golf Coach

The players have left for the summer: back to Sweden, Argentina, Ontario, and everywhere in between.  As a coach, I have had time to look back on the season and smile.  We accomplished a lot with a young group of girls and I could not be more excited for the future of Newberry College Women’s Golf!

I thought I would pass along some of the accomplishments in a “by the numbers” format.  Several of the categories were much improved from the 2007-08 season and they are listed below:

3.515 - Team Grade Point Average (Added .101 to GPA from 2007-08)
3 – NGCA Academic All-American Nominations

19th - Highest National Ranking (GolfStat)

2nd - Highest Tournament Finish (2009 Ralph Hargett Memorial)
331.6 - Team Scoring Average (Dropped 4.3 strokes from 2007-08)

319 - Team Low 18 (Patsy Rendleman Invite)
641 - Team Low: 641 (Patsy Rendleman Invite)
5 – Top 5 Finishes

70 - Individual Low 18 (Maria Luz Besio)
74 - Individual Low 36 (Maria Luz Besio)

With our stellar recruiting class, I cannot wait to surpass our accomplishments from this year!  We look forward to a productive summer and excitement for the fall!

Thanks for following our year and we will see you again soon!
