NEWBERRY, S.C. — After a weather-delayed start, the Newberry Wolves men's soccer team came out ready to play, earning a 2-0 shutout victory over Lincoln Memorial on Saturday night.
Newberry struck first in the 31st minute when
Ben Curtis continued his scoring momentum from Wednesday's contest, finding the back of the net at the 31:59 mark to give the Wolves a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Wolves carried that momentum into the second half, adding an insurance goal from
Tyson Funderburk at the 20:71 mark. The goal marked Funderburk's first of the season, with Deny Bekhvandi providing the assist to extend Newberry's lead to 2-0.
While the Wolves' offense provided the scoring, goalkeeper
Charlie Clark anchored the defensive effort, standing tall throughout the match and recording nine saves to preserve the shutout.
With the victory, Newberry secured another strong performance on both sides of the ball and kept Lincoln Memorial off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes.
The Wolves will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m., when Newberry travels to Coker University to take on the Cobras.
